Hello and Welcome Back! In my recent January Favourites I promised you this book review. So here it is!
Those of you who have read my blog for a while will know this book was on my Amazon Wishlist. I was instantly drawn to this book as it focused on friendship which is a welcomed changed from the hundreds of romance books. The Story of Us surpassed my expectations and I’m excited to share my thoughts with you.
This story focuses on four friends, Sophie, Melissa, Amy and Emily who met at University seven years before the story starts. They go away for a week onces every year as a team. Each year is introduced with the latest news story. Starting with Princess Dianas death in 1997.
All four are very different but there is an underlying love for eachother which I would describe as a sibling love. It is difficult to summerise each character without spoiling the story for you. So I will give you a description based on their careers just to give you an idea of their differences. Emily is a single Mum, Sophie is career focused, Amy is an amazing cook and Melissa works for the music industry.
The story is told from all perspectives allowing you to connect with all of the characters and emotionally invest in all of them. It also means that as the reader you often know the secrets before some characters do leaving you hooked.
They all portray a perfect life to eachother but as the years go on the cracks start to form and the secrets start pouring out. Every secret is unpredicatable and life altering.
Throughout the story emotive topics such as emitonal abuse, affairs, domestic abuse and miscarriages are discussed forcing you to feel deeply empathetic to each character and invested in their world.
Reading this book really felt like I was taking a step back from reality and jumping into their world. I had days when I wished I didn’t have to work just so I could read The Story of Us. Have you ever felt that way about a book and is so which book was it? This story was the perfect escape from the January blues. The ending was perfect and left my heart racing.
I hope have inspired you to read the Story of Us. Let me know in the comments below what you would recommend? I am always looking for something new to read!
