Hello and welcome back! Recently, as I’m sure a lot of us do from time to time, I have been struggling with self doubt. For me, self doubt is when I don’t believe in my ability or potential. Now, obviously this isn’t good.
To help me with my self doubt (and hopefully you too!). I have some advice which I will share with you now. If I have missed anything off let me know in the comments below. Let’s help each other out!
When I’m struggling with self doubt, I find I talk down to myself. So instead I focus on talking to myself like I would talk to a friend. We all know we are nicer to our friends. For example a small mistake isn’t the end of the world, it is a learning experience.
Ask yourself, Why couldn’t it be you? or Why couldn’t you do it? Answer rationally, you will probably find that again you are unnecessarily harsh to yourself.
Give yourself a break. We can’t do it all! If you are perfectionist like me this can be difficult to understand. Instead just focus on what is a priority the rest can wait.
Don’t assume other people are thinking the worse of you. We are our own worse critics and let’s be honest everyone else is too busy worrying about themselves!
One from How to be a Bawse by Lilly Singh. Have your phone wallpaper be a positive affirmations. You look at you phone so often so it is a nice reminder.
Don’t compare your level 1 to someone else’s level 100. Let’s use blogging as an example, if you’ve just started your blog don’t compare yourself to someone who has been blogging for years.
Take a break on social media. We all know social media is a trap for comparison. So taking a break can help to clear your head.
And finally, don’t demean yourself by saying thing like “just” or “if you don’t mind” etc. It is excusing yourself and reinforcing self doubt. Remember, what you have to say is valued.
