How to Fall Back in Love with Reading

Hello and Welcome Back! Those of you who follow my blog will know I am a book worm often sharing book reviews and including books in my monthly favourites. However, this past month I have really struggled to get into reading. I think it is because I have been working longer hours but I missed reading. I have now fallen back in love with reading. In today’s post I am going to share with you how!


Audiobooks are often seen as the lazy way to read. To be honest I was sceptical, as I wondered how you could focus on a story just by listening. I started using audio books when I first moved to London and commuted on the tube. As I felt travel sick when reading (something I still occasionally suffer with but not as often) so started listening to audiobooks. I loved them! They really bring the story to life and allows you to enjoy the experience of a book whilst continuing with your day to day life. Everyone has heard of Audible but a recent discovery for me is Spooks. Which is free and allows you Β to discover free books in your Spotify. I have recently been listening to Matt Haig’s Notes On A Nervous Planet which has been fascinating.


A book series is more likely to encourage you to keep reading. Just think how easily we get addicted to TV series! Something which helped me is to listen to the first book in the series then read the second. Listening to the first books gets you hooked that you feel you have no option but read the second one! This month I listen to Wilde Like Me on Audible then read Wilde About The Girl both by Louise Pentland.

Start smaller books

Go for a lighter read to ease yourself gently into reading. You don’t have to start with Shakespeare! I would recommend Wilde Like Me by Lousie Pentland or Fractured by Dani Atkins. As both are easy to relate to without being dull. Quite the opposite actually both left me gripped.

Make it Part of Your Routine

This will help you to get into the habit of reading. For example can you read on your commute or maybe in your lunch break or before you go to sleep. That way you miss it if you don’t read.

Explore your Local Book Shop or Library

Take the time to explore what is on offer to read and see what takes your interesting. Finding a new book to read is more likely to make you excited to read it. As it is like finding a hidden gem.
