Hello and welcome back! Being environmentally friendly is more important today than it ever has been. We have also seen the amount of plastic in ocean and heard the terrifying statistic that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish! So today I am going to share with you my Simple Tips to be more Environmentally Friendly. Several of these tips will also save you money so its a win for you and for the environment!
I am no green goddess, I am just like the majority of the population figuring out what they can do to reduce their impact on the environment. That being said if you have any tips that I have missed off be sure you share them in the comments below, so we can help each other out!
So lets get started my first tip is to use a reusable coffee cup. I currently use this very fetching purple one everyday to have my morning coffee and my lunchtime tea (yes I am a creature of habbit!). One day, I would like to treat myself sometime to a collapsible one that I can pop into my hand bag for days out. As an added bonus lots of coffee shops give you a discount if you provided you own cup.
Some coffee shops such as AMT coffee also use coffee cups that decompose. So if I haven’t got my coffee cup with me I will choose to buy my coffee there.
Along the same lines is to take a water bottle out with you. Cafes and Restaurants with the logo in their window show below will refill your bottle with tap water for free. You can also use the refill app to help you find you nearest place to refill your bottle.
If you forget to take your bottle out (as we all do, we are only human after all) choose to by a can or cartoon of water rather than from a plastic bottle.
Another one we all know is using reusable bags. I have found the only bag I remember to take with mm is this fold-able one from Wilkos. They are perfect as the fit into my bag or pocket without taking up to much space meaning I always have it with me.
One that will save you money and help the environment is to take your own lunch into work. If you think about it that salad you buy probably came in a plastic container with plastic cutlery. So by bringing in your lunch you are reducing your waste.
Another food related tip is to bulk buy items. For example buying porridge in a 1kg or 500g bag rather than the individual sachets will reduce the amount of packaging you use. Again it will also save you money!
Use biodegradable products when you can such as wipes and sanitary products. I love these biodegradable wipes by Simple. I actually prefer them to their normal ones as they are wetter do don’t feel like they are dragging on my skin.
Use a flannel rather than cotton wool pads to remove your make up. Cotton Wool pads generally don’t biodegrade so are bad for the environment. Instead use a cleanser (I love this Soap & Glory Peaches and Clean Deep Cleansing Milk) and a Flannel.
Buy secondhand when you can as this allows items to be reused. I love to get a good bargain for a charity shop as we all do. For example, I love to buy my books second hand. Either from a charity shop or I recently discovered a second hand online book shop called the World of Books. I brought 10 books from them recently. They were all in good condition and arrived with free delivery within a week.
So there you go! There are my tips on how to be more environmentally friendly. Have I missed any off? If so please leave it in the comments below.
